Planet Mongoose posted in there blog that their attempt to grab the Star Wars gaming license that wizards of the coast let expire failed, and were out bid by another "known" gaming company. They were not at liberty to say whom it was, but it sounds like good news for the Star Wars gaming community. Rumors and speculations are already flying around the web, and the star wars gaming community is waiting to hear the news. I think we all agree that Wizards of the Coast did an amazing revamp of the RPG system, and a great job on the Miniatures. It doesn't surprise me that Wizards of the Coast let the product go, because of the poor turn out at conventions. The first GenCon following the Star Wars release of the Core Book had such a poor turn out, and to be fair and honest there were no prepared RPGA games or fast play tables open. If your product launching a new game everybody knows that you need to get people playing. Although the miniature gamers had a strong following, it seemed that the Star Wars RPG was lacking in support.
In a positive outlook on the future of Star Wars RPG, Card, and Miniature gaming I am hoping, praying, crossing my fingers whom ever won the bid on the license improves on the already great foundation that was laid out by Wizards of the Coast. I am referring to the RPG and miniature game aspect, as I am not so familiar with the Card game. There is already a fan based Star Wars Miniature community that build maps, create new cards for existing miniatures for alternate play. The people want star wars, but they demand quality and clarity, and good ol fashion fun.
Patiently (Okay Maybe Not So Patiently) Waiting for the Announcement,
A Star Wars Gamer
