Description
Miguel Garcia is a 26 year old Starbucks barista/ struggling lead singer and writer for “ZERO GRAVITY” a local progressive band. He stands 5’10” with long black hair, hazel eyes, and a slender build. Depending on his mood his dress ranges from classic independent band musician to retro to cutting edge. Miguel is a good looking guy which almost always gets him into trouble. He never has a shortage of female stares but is at core a shy guy who loves music (girls love that too…).
Background
Miguel was an orphan who lost his family in a fire when he was just 2 years old. After spending a brief time in a local orphanage north Hollywood Miguel was adopted by an elderly woman named Terry Goldman. A gifted musical genius from the age of 8 Miguel is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and pianist. He obtained a full scholarship to the USC Thornton School of Music and graduated Cum Lade about 4 years ago. He was also a green activist in college taking a trip out to the Arctic and the Rain Forests in the Amazon for “Save the Forest” and “Save the Planet” charities performing speeches. Immediately after college Miguel dove right into his music starting a progressive band named “ZERO G”. He views life with a passion and wants to share his music with the world. Gravity is a 4 man band consisting of his drummer “Hugh Bates”, guitar player “Mike Sellers” and bass/keyboard player “Jack Wong”.
Today
It is not easy to make it in the music biz, even for a musical genius like Miguel. It has been 4 years of musical struggling while working at Starbucks to make ends meet. Times have been a bit hard since the loss of his guardian Terry last year, who Miguel loved as his mother. She died from a Pacemaker malfunction while eating lunch with Miguel. Today, Miguel has a meager apartment in North Hollywood, works as a Starbucks barista for a ball-busting shift manager “Mr Quan”, has a smoking hot girlfriend from PHI DELTA GAMMA named Alyssa Russo, and is the lead singer of a struggling band trying to bust through and make it.
Just recently Miguel has discovered that his talents extend further than musicianship and into the realm of extraordinary. The ability to manipulate metal objects by thought and concentration is an amazing power that has him perplexed. One night Miguel was under a lot of stress when one of his band mates got trashed drunk and left him alone to play lead guitar and sing in front of a live audience and a special guest from KROQ. There was an accident outside after the performance. Miguel was moving outside through the back door into the alley to see what all the commotion was about, when he ran into a jealous boyfriend’s thug of his new “girl” friend. The man was connected with the music industry, and sent one of his thugs to teach Miguel a lesson. A gun was pulled and bullets were fired, but Miguel outstretched his hand and instinctively stopped them in mid-air. Miguel, the girl and thug were all stunned at the unbelievable spectacle. A confuse Miguel ran through the bar blowing off his only chance at an interview to promote his band “ZERO G” with KROQ’s DJ lightning. Ever since that night Miguel has had a hard time finding gigs for his band. Miguel’s attempts to contact KROQ have gone without answer, and he feels he is beating on a dead horse. Miguel is not naive; he suspects the recent jealous boyfriend with connections to the music industry may be playing a part in the situation.
The next day Miguel went to visit Alyssa at PHI DELTA GAMMA and it changed his life. A man dressed in a hooded sweat shirt and plain clothes attacked Miguel without provocation with intent to kill. Slamming Miguel with unseen powers and pinning him to the wall inside the sorority house. The hooded man pointed with his finger not more than five feet away drawing an imaginary line at Miguel’s left side of his fore head and began to slice Miguel’s head open as he traced it across. Blood gushed out and partially blinded Miguel as his struggled futilely, he tried to use his new found power to defend himself, but he was no match for the hooded man. It was his friends Brian and a girl from the sorority house that saved him using incredible powers. The hooded man ran the scene, but not before leaving Miguel with a serious cut and scaring his forehead.
Confounding events keep erupting, and more people with unexplained extraordinary abilities cross Miguel’s paths colliding with his normal life. He has made some new friends that share his uniqueness and he is starting to understand his new found power. Miguel has been reading a book on mutations and evolution by a Dr. Suresh, and spending more time with the others like James Drew and Brian who shares these unexplained awakening of powers. He is meditating more and doing yoga classes to clarity his mind, while drinking lots of green tea to cleanse his Chi. Miguel thinks something is drawing him to these people, and coincidences like his tattoo being in the book have Miguel confused.
Miguel has learned that his powers are uncontrollable to a degree, and under calm situations he cannot control the strength of his power. Only under some kind of threat or mental stress do his powers come to life and almost limitless strength and control. His lifestyle has all around become more stressful, and hanging around James Drew who works as a personal bodyguard and private detective has not brought anymore peace to the young man who otherwise would be writing songs, and creating art; not stopping bullets.
Miguel feels his new found powers are a gift that should be used towards helping people and the planet. While spending time with James Drew, Miguel has found out that together they can make a difference but it has already cost him his job at Starbucks. There are others that know what is happening to him and his friends, others that have witnessed his special abilities and some that just wish him dead. Miguel is on a path of self-discovery, trying to stay alive and figure out his next move.
James Drew’s visions have lead Miguel to meet three new people that also express unique abilities. A cousin of Brian’s named Jordon that seem to share certain traits, a lawyer Nicolai who can read thoughts and a Japanese Dr. Kenji Watanabe whose research is specialized in genetic mutative viruses and is able to emit intense destructive heat. Dr. Kenji Watanabe’s private research facility independently funded by a Michael Boon was attacked by some organized military unit sent to kill all occupants. A girl able to manipulate the raw power of lightning was leading them on the attack; we were able to repel the ambush but not without injury and almost death. During the fight Miguel started to realize the true strength of his power, lifting a truck, creating a magnetic field to protect him from bullets, and even the ability to levitate.
Verum Peto is latin for “Truth Seekers” an organization led by a man named Fausto; a well dressed man that has mental abilities like Nicko. A young Indian boy dressed in shanty clothes and sandals accompanied Fausto, and we learn the young boy had the power to create portals for travel. Fausto explained that his organization helped people like us, and we would have to leave our lives behind reinventing ourselves, he promised sanctuary and answers to our questions. I was desperate for answers, but it was a phone call that changed everything, Kenji’s tried to hide his feelings as he listened to his cellphone, but we all knew something was wrong. His wife and daughter were in trouble, but the ransom was Brian. Nobody had any intentions in giving them Brian, but no one wanted to stand by and watch Kenji leave bloodied and wounded to save his family alone. I didn’t hesitate, but we needed a plan and we needed one fast. We acquired a vehicle albeit under the flag of violence, and I think Nicko may not be accustomed to the stress of using his powers nor the strength. He almost killed an innocent student, and he injured another female girl.
Our plan was simple, use Jordan abilities to mimic Brian Blake and walk in without resistance and save Kenji’s family. The same girl Miguel saw wielding the power of electricity was in Kenji’s house mediating the trade, but she was alone which raised suspicion. She was young and pretty, but something wasn’t right. Miguel couldn’t put his finger on it, but he knew in his gut something was out of place. Jordan lost his form and I reacted charging the female kidnapper. We caught her off guard, she screamed “Turn it off” which made no sense at the time. The girl shot a blast of lightning towards Kenji, I used all my concentration to intercept the blast with my abilities protecting Kenji with an energy field. I was surprised by my actions, but they were instinctive and I knew the lives of Kenji’s loved ones were at stake. It brought focus to my actions, my powers were easier to control and call upon. James grabbed Kenji’s daughter to safety, but the girl changed her tactics and turned to blast at Kenji’s wife with intent to kill. Kenji tried to stop the attack with a wall of plasma, but the attack continued, I tried with all my strength to stop the blast but it wasn’t strong enough.
What came next was something I will never forget. I was the heat that I felt first like opening an oven in your face, then the bright light. Kenji’s body was engulfed in with flame and then the blast came. I used ever last bit of concentration and strength to protect all of those I could, but the blast took out the entire block destroying and killing anyone in its path that wasn’t protected by my field leaving a circular ring of fire and cutouts of nearby house within the radius. Kenji took flight during his display of powers and fell unconscious soon after, but I was able to levitate him down safety.
We found ourselves running from an unknown organization that has military soldiers, and special people who share extraordinary abilities. The girl, when Miguel first saw her he was amazed at what she was doing, using the power of electricity like he could control Magnetism, but he wasn’t strong enough to save her and ask her questions, and he had many questions. The swirling portal was sent by Fausto, and nobody hesitated this time, I left my old life behind that day. Nothing was going to be the same, especially for Kenji.
The Truth Seekers- An organization that apparently helps people like myself. They have treated us with kindness and hospitality, but it seemed too good to be true. We met with Fausto’s associated named Gabriel and they welcomed us with open arms. They gave us food, money, a roof over our heads, and new identities, wiping our existence from the world on paper and creating new ones.
Our first job was to steal information from a man located in Las Vegas; a Mr. Linderman. A distraction, infiltration and using a computer which could talk named Drecker we were able to acquire Veritas the information, but not without losing Drecker to the security system. The information we gathered was the location of a friend of Fausto’s.
Our second mission, to rescue Victor a powerful man that had the ability to learn other peoples powers , an ex-employee of Veritos and good friend to Fausto, who was located in Mongolia in a level 6 prison especially made to hold special people like us from using our powers. We entered Mongolia through a portal created by Kali, and we started our way toward the prison from afar. This mission turned out to be a chaotic and bloody encounter which would question my reasons about Veritos and what I was doing for them. After a bloody battle that involved tanks, helicopters, scores of armed and trained soldiers, and some other super humans Miguel and his companions rescued Victor and escaped death leaving behind carnage and ruins.
The third mission and last one that I had done for Veritos was to investigate a ghost sighting in Italy. Strange happenings in a small Italian city caught the eye of Veritos and they wanted us to gather some information. At first it seemed as there was a plague going around, I remember my stomach getting extremely nauseous when I was exposed to this supernatural being. It had the ability to walk unseen, and travel between people possessing them and after it left their body they would rapidly decay and die. This supernatural “thing” was evil incarnate feeding on the helpless and enjoying the chaos it caused. I fighting this being, I discovered I had the abilities to protect my mind and body from intrusion. We followed the monster to a church where I was about to create a field around the area creating a prison for the “ghost”. We were able to destroy the evil being, but as we finished it we were immediately attacked by another group. This was not your normal police, and it seemed they knew exactly where to find us. We escaped the city easily, but it did not last long.
Outside the Italian town we encountered an awesome force that destroyed our vehicle and almost killed us all. A man that could control the earth, slamming us with huge fists made of stone and skin that seemed impenetrable show off his awesome strength and power. Niko saved us from death, and was able to make the man stand down and turn of his power leaving him in human form and vulnerable to Drew’s pistol.
When we reached the rendezvous’ point for the portal I noticed something I had not before. Jordin and some of the others did not trust Veritos and didn’t want to return, but after a moment they suddenly changed their minds. Miguel knew they were being manipulated, but by whom?
It wasn’t soon after that I would be forced to make a decision that would take me on a new journey away from Veritos. My abilities were maturing fast, and I realized another hidden power that I had was protection from mind intrusion. My friends, even Niko who was a telepath himself were being manipulated by someone. I couldn’t say who, there were too many variables but Fausto and Victor were at the top of the list. The two were arguing over something when they found me eves dropping, and soon the words simply turned to attacks. I stopped Fausto from killing Victor, and sealed my fate when I attacked Fausto. Fausto tried to kill Victor, but he was no match and now Fausto is dead. I have decided to leave with my friends and with Victor, but my future is unclear. One questions remains, why did Fausto have us rescue Victor only to try to kill him? We will be hunted now, even more than before, I must master my powers for the coming days.
